Fun Photo Tip (Move Around!)

Has anyone ever told you that you have an "eye" for photography? I remember a friend of mine telling me once that even way back in high school when all we had were throw-away cameras, I always found a way to be creative. Technical ability is definitely important but one of the easiest ways to take better photos is to MOVE AROUND! Be creative! Think outside the box! Start out shooting one way and then step back, re-think it and find another angle. Have fun with it - you'll be amazed at what you end up with!

To show you an example ... here are some photos of my 3 year old Roxy. This week's homework assignment was to photograph your children with their favorite things. Since I'm doing the homework with you this week, I took Roxy out with a couple of her favorite things today. First one ... MAKE UP! She looooooves make up! Every day she asks if she can put on some of my "lipsticks." So when we first got outside, I laid down on the grass in front of her and started shooting. I almost always start at eye level with the kiddos I photograph since a lot of the time that's the best angle.

After a few shots, though, I could tell I wasn't getting what I wanted so I got up and moved around! She was so into her "lipsticks" that she barely even noticed me scrambling around trying to find the perfect spot. And it only took me a minute to find the shot I wanted ...

Makes those first few shots look pretty snap-shotty, huh? :)

So there you go ... a fun fun photo tip! Stay tuned for another one tomorrow! Homework results are coming tomorrow, too, so check back soon!

XOXO, Sarah Q

I really like the first 4 shots - of course the last one is THE shot - thanks for your advice!
